Inanna Fastens The Gaze Of Death Upon Him

When she came back
she was not wet from the river.
The corners of her were ashy.
She came in like a wolf

among sheep she came in
with demons around her.
She looked at him
and his sheep
she looked at him with his soft cheeses
she looked at him with his
throne of a shepherd.
She had wanted him somewhere.
He saw the raw disappointment in her:
he wanted to hold it like a lamb.
She fastened the gaze of death upon him.
                     The Anunna
knocked the lids off his churns,
scattered his sheep,
molded his cheeses,

they dragged him back with them
as he twisted and turned and changed into a gazelle
they took him.
